Juvia’s Place Volumizing Gloss Sticks Review: Plump & Hydrated Lips, “Buy” or “Bye”

Alright ya’ll, I’ll admit it. I am typically not the one to get super hyped up about lip products outside of the drugstore aisle. I’ve tried so many lip products over the years. There haven’t been too many differences between the wear of the higher-end brands and the cheap ones I could find at the drugstore. So, if I try a lipstick that’s over $15 that means I was super interested or fell madly in love with a shade. In this case, it was both.

I recently tried the new Volumizing Gloss Sticks by Juvia’s Place. I usually steer away from plumpers and volumizing formulas, but I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect nude that I can wear alone or as a topper. I picked up shade Soft Mauve, a barely there soft pink, and shade Sugar Cookie, a medium cool brown. I like them alone, but I love them when worn together!

All the Details

The brand is calling this product a hybrid of a lipstick and super high shine gloss. The gloss is enriched with five botanical oils that work to keep your lips hydrated while still delivering the super concentrated pigmentation that the brand is most well known for. These oils are working overtime since they are also responsible for giving lips a natural volumizing plump.

There are twelve shades to choose from ranging from a clear gloss topper to a rich deep berry purple so there’s something available for everyone. And selling for $15.00 at ulta.com and juviasplace.com, they’re a price point that most beauty enthusiast can handle.

This product is perfect for someone looking for the color payoff of lipstick, the high shine of a gloss, volume from a a lip plumper, and nourishment you’d get from a balm.

First Impressions and Application

I’m a sucker for brand consistency and packaging and Juvia’s Place never disappoints. I love how they always stay true to their brand identity in their packaging. Without any signage, I’d know their products from anyone else’s.

The gloss stick tube is well made. I like that it has a “clicker” when you wind the product up. This way, you know it’s working. It also helps you get an idea of how much product you’re dispensing.

I applied way to much product the first time I applied because I didn’t realize just how far a little goes with this gloss. If you apply directly on the lips with the usual amount of pressure you’d expect to use with a lipstick; it will be entirely too much product and the stick will start to break down.

I suggest using a lip brush or a very gentle hand while tapping the product onto the lips and avoid swipping.

There’s no funny smells or overly floral or fruity scents that tend to come with some glosses on the market. There’s no funny taste or after taste, just the slight spiciness you get on the lips from a lip plumper. I can’t say that I noticed a more plump pout. I also wore a lipliner under the gloss so this could be the reason why I didn’t see the plumping action.

Wear Test

I applied this gloss before work and then stopped for coffee on the drive and a bit of product did come off on the straw and my breakfast. This didn’t bother me because the gloss never claimed to be longwearing, and I’m okay with re-applying gloss.

During my 8 hour work shift I re-applied the lipstick after breakfast, again after lunch, and on the way home. This is common with a gloss for me. Apply a lipliner underneath to extend the wear and you should be fine. The product did get on my glass and coffee cup, but other than that it stayed put and didn’t “bleed” over my lip lines like some super juicy glosses have a tendency to do.

Pros and Cons

A con for me is that the spiciness of the plumper lasted all day as if I’d just put it on. It was a little annoying, but not enough for me to stop wearing it. Although, not a con for me, some may find the ease of transfer a little annoying. But remember this is plumping, hydration, color payoff, and shine; not longwear.

A major plus is how impressed I was that I only re-applied three times during the day. I talk all day non-stop at work and glosses don’t typically last very long on me. That’s why I’m more of a matte finish girl. However, this one was solid and held up quite well to my day.

Overall Verdict: Buy or Bye?

This one is definitely a “Buy.” I will be reaching for both these shades for quite a while and working them into my regular re-purchase rotation.

If you’re looking for something super high shine, good for your lips, and with a good shade range that doesn’t break the bank; definitely check these out.
